Myanmar nationals deported from Manipur
Imphal: Twenty Myanmar nationals who had entered Manipur illegally and stayed in the state were deported back to Myanmar by the Manipur state government. All the Myanmar nationals were staying under the watchful eye of the Manipur government in shelter homes on humanitarian grounds.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh says, the state government will continue to deport back the Myanmarese citizens who had entered Manipur illegally.
Speaking to media persons after attending the virtual function of PM Modi launching several projects of NE on Saturday, Biren said that huge numbers of Myanmarese nationals are entering inside Manipur. The state government will deport them back to their country batch by batch.
On Saturday, 9th March, a total of twenty Myanmar nationals were flown to the border town Moreh. Then they were first entrusted to the immigration officer in Moreh and later handed over to Myanmar officials of Tammu in Sagaing Region. The twenty individuals were the second batch to be deported back to Myanmar. The first batch of seven Myanmar were deported on Friday, 8th March.
It is reported that altogether 77 Myanmar individuals will be deported to Myanmar between March 8 and March 11. Among them 55 are reported to be women, five are children, and the others are adult men.
Manipur has seen a surge in infiltration of Myanmarese nationals illegally due to the ongoing crisis in the country. As the porous border with Myanmar stretching 398 kilometres has made easy infiltration to the Indian side to Manipur without any hassle. The Free Movement Regime which allowed individuals to enter 16 kilometres inside both the countries without any legal papers had encouraged illegal entry.
In order to stop illegal entry, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had declared scrapping of FMR and fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border.
