Meghalaya nurses seek global opportunities at overseas nursing job fair

The event, organized by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, drew nurses eager to explore job prospects abroad, EastMojo reports.

Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, attended the fair as the chief guest and assured full government support for trained nurses seeking international placements. He announced a subsidy of Rs 50,000 per student to aid in their career pursuits.

The event saw participation from companies interested in recruiting and training skilled nurses for overseas roles. Notable firms like Navis HR Pvt Ltd, Nursedge, The Trained Nurses Association India, and Ajith Enterprise were present.

CM Sangma emphasized the importance of skill-based education and the government's commitment to facilitating overseas job readiness. He highlighted the humility ingrained in the tribal society as an asset for the state's human resources.

Noting the global demand for nursing professionals, Sangma stated that India is expected to supply over 40% of skilled labor in the coming decades.

With a substantial number of registered nurses in the Meghalaya nursing council, the state aims to equip its youth with diverse skills to meet international demand.

The event featured participation from companies in Japan, Singapore, Germany, the Middle East, and Australia, showcasing opportunities for the nursing community.

CM Sangma motivated nurses by highlighting attractive salary ranges and the potential to remit earnings back to their families in Meghalaya.

Health Minister M Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasized the need to support trained citizens without jobs and encouraged nurses to enhance their skills in nursing, relevant technologies, and languages of their desired employment countries.

To address concerns about nurse safety abroad, the government plans to organize an Overseas Nursing Job Fair in Tura for aspiring nurses from Garo Hills.

The fair marked a significant stride in empowering Meghalaya's nursing community with international prospects and contributing to the state's economic growth. The initiative aims to establish a quality community of residents abroad, similar to other Indian states.
