Nagaland: NESMS holds seminar on 'Agar Wood Plantation in North-East India'
Tuli/Nagaland: Nagaland Ecological and Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) organised a one-day seminar entitled “Promoting Agar Wood Plantation in India’s North-eastern Region” on May 11 at Aitlenden ward, Tuli Town Mokokchung.

NESMS informed that the seminar was sponsored by the North-Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) under North Eastern Council (NEC) Shillong, Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DONER) government of India.
P. Samalemzung from the forest department, Tuli Range Office, Mokokchung, said 21 species of agar wood, a highly valued/expensive natural raw material in the world for its distinctive fragrances, was found in India.
He explained about the three different species commonly found in India, out of which aquilaria crassna was the best species in Nagaland. Samalemzung also encouraged the participants to make agarwood farming a profession.
Temjen Jamir, the coordinator of NESMS, gave a brief overview of NERCORM and NESMS on the program.
The program was attended by representatives from the forest department, 21 participants, volunteers, and personnel from NESMS.
