Union Ministry launches Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar campaign promoting zero-waste cities in India
Dimapur/Kohima: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar campaign on May 15 as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.
The three-week campaign, based on the three Rs (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) of waste management, aims to create a zero-waste ecosystem and promote cleaner cities in India.
The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) inaugurated an RRR Centre on May 20 at the DDSC Stadium, serving as a collection point for recyclable items., reported THe Mourung Times.
The initiative was praised by local leaders and citizens for promoting sustainability and responsible behavior. The DMC Administrator encouraged participation from all colony councils, with cash prizes for the best-performing localities.
In Kohima, the campaign was launched at the office of the Kohima Smart City Development Ltd., emphasizing the importance of sustainable development and waste reduction.
The lack of proper recycling and waste management infrastructure was acknowledged as a challenge, but individuals were urged to take action and reduce waste.
RRR Centres were inaugurated in several wards/colonies of the municipality, allowing people to donate and pick up old, unused items. The campaign will culminate on June 5, with recognition and awards for the best RRR Centres. Similar initiatives were launched in other cities across Nagaland.
