Woman dies after being set on fire for dowry in Uttar Pradesh, 8 booked
A 22-year-old woman was set on fire and killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws after failing to meet dowry demand in Sirsaganj area of Firozabad district here in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, police sources said.
Police sources said that Sultan Singh, a resident of Shahzadpur, lodged a complaint that he married his sister Sangita to Jogendra Kumar, a resident of Nagla Man Singh.
"The complainant alleged that he gave sufficient gifts, including cash, household items, and a two-wheeler, at the time of the marriage, but despite this, Sangita was being harassed by her in-laws for additional dowry," they said.
Police sources said that Sultan has alleged that on Saturday morning Sangita's father-in-law Ratan Kumar, mother-in-law Guddi, husband Jogendra, brother-in-laws Ashish alias Patendra, Aryan alias Satyendra Kumar, sister-in-law Ravita, and her husband Vinay Kumar set her on fire.
Police sources said that Sultan alleged that the accused fled from the spot after the incident.
"A case has been lodged against eight persons in this regard, and the body has been sent for postmortem examination," they said.
