Pakistan: Protesters demand stern action against Jaranwala rioters
Members of the Christian community on Sunday demonstrated against the burning of churches and houses in Jaranwala area of Pakistan's Punjab region and demanded action against the people involved in the incident.
Holding banners and placards, the protesters gathered outside Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the Jaranwala incident, Dawn News.
The members also condemned the incident.
They urged the government to order an inquiry in the incident.
“In case the government does not take immediate action, then we will be forced to protest in Islamabad,” the protesters told Dawn News.
The protesters were led by Pakistan Youth Parliament minister for minorities Gideon Joseph, provincial president of Minorities Alliance Pakistan Anush Bhatti, Bishop of Pakistan Humphrey Sarfaraz Peter and political activist Daniyal Jamshed while Hindu community leader Haroon Sarb Dayal also participated in the demonstration, the Pakistani newspaper reported.
Recently, the properties of several poor families were burnt down, damaged and looted and 21 churches were ransacked during rampage in Jaranwala.
