Mumbai/IBNS: Veteran actress Sandhya, best remembered for her iconic performances in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje and Pinjara, passed away on Friday at the age of 94, family sources confirmed.

Her funeral was held at Vaikunth Dham in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai, and was attended by close family members, friends, and admirers, according to an India Today report.
Though the cause of death has not been officially announced, reports suggest she had been suffering from age-related ailments.
Born as Vijaya Deshmukh, Sandhya became one of the defining faces of Indian cinema’s golden era.
She was married to legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram, with whom she collaborated on several landmark films that continue to hold a special place in Indian film history.
V. Shantaram discovered her while casting for Amar Bhoopali (1952), marking Sandhya’s debut in the role of a vocalist.
