Speedcubing takes Assam by storm, showcasing talent at North-East India's largest competition
In the realm of competitive puzzle-solving, Assam has emerged as a thriving hub for speedcubing, captivating the interest of young enthusiasts. Originating from the world-renowned Rubik's Cube, created in 1974 by Hungarian architecture professor Ernõ Rubik, the sport of speedcubing gained formal recognition with the inaugural World Rubik’s Cube Championship in 1982
Since then, the World Cube Association has been established as the global governing body for all speedcubing competitions.
Impressively, Assam has already played host to 13 speedcubing competitions, boasting a cadre of accomplished speedcubers who have made their mark on the international stage, reported The Assam Tribune.
Among them are Kabyanil Talukdar, a former World Champion and world record holder in Rubik's Cube blindfolded solving, and Nayan Jyoti Das, a former Asian record holder in Rubik's Cube one-handed solving.
To further promote and nurture the sport, a local organization called SpeedCubing Guwahati was founded in 2019. This organization has been instrumental in organizing competitions, workshops, and seminars across Assam, fostering a vibrant community of speedcubers.
Adding to the excitement, the largest speedcubing competition in North-East India to date is scheduled to take place on July 16th at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. The event is expected to draw hundreds of participants from all corners of India, making it a significant occasion.
Speedcubing not only offers a thrilling competitive endeavor but also cultivates essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and perseverance among its participants. With the upcoming event set to showcase the remarkable talent from the region, the future of speedcubing in Assam appears exceedingly promising.
