24th CPI (M) state conference to begin on Jan 29, mass rally at UK Academy ground, not Astable Maidan
After uncertainty for last three weeks, the opposition CPI(M) going ahead to organize its mass rally to observe the 24th state conference of the party at the school ground of Umakanta Academy instead of Vivekananda stadium (Astable Maidan) on January 29 next after assurance from Chief Minister, but nothing final.
Addressing a press conference after daylong meeting of CPI(M) state committee ahead of crucial 24th state conference of the party from January 29 to 31st, CPI(M)state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury along with senior party leader and convener of Tripura Left Front Narayan Kar said that for the mass rally on the beginning day of state conference, the party has applied for Vivekananda ground to the Sports Council of Tripura on December 26 last, but after 11 days, the authorities informed the party they cannot provide the ground on January 29 as there will be a fair of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and the department has occupied the ground.
Then, CPI (M) contemplated organizing the mass rally at Orient Chowmuhani, but avoided the same due to possible traffic congestion in the city, said Chaudhury and added that they later approached the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. When, Chief Minister wanted a suggestion for a possible venue for the mass rally, the party requested him to ensure ground in front of Umakanta Academy, said Chaudhury and added that the Chief Minister positively agreed with their choice of the party, but so no official confirmation.
Chaudhury said that based on the positive talks with the Chief Minister, the party is preparing to organize the mass rally at the ground of Umakanta Academy.
Meanwhile, after nine months of assembly elections and humiliating defeat, the opposition CPI(M) gearing up to observe the 24th state conference of the party at Agartala Town Hall in presence of top leaders of the party.
Earlier, the 23rd state conference of the party held on February last, 2022, just a year before the assembly elections with an aim to defeat BJP-IPFT government and return of Left democratic forces in the state power, but CPI (M) along with their alliance partner Congress defeated by the BJP and formed the 2nd BJP government in Tripura led by Dr Manik Saha.
While, giving details of the 24th state conference, party’s state secretary and incumbent leader of opposition (LoP), Jitendra Chaudhury said that three days state conference will begin on January 29 with a mass rally at UK Academy ground in Agartala, where party’s to leaders including coordinator of politburo, Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Ashok Dwale and Manik Sarkar will address the gathering.
He said that during three state conferences from January 29 to 31st, altogether 411 delegates from eight districts will participate and party leaders will have elaborate discussion over the next agenda to fight with BJP by strengthening their organization.
He said that so far CPI (M) has completed over 3,726 branch and 287 local committee conferences across the state and the party has also completed 24 sub divisional conferences and formed new committees with induction of more and more youth leaders with veterans.
Chaudhury said that all eight district conferences of the party have also completed and among 3726 branch committees, a total of 25.68% young leaders of the party elected for leadership. Similarly, the party has elected 33% new faces in local committees and out of 24 sub divisional committees, 16 new faces were introduced for leadership and out of eight district committees, six new faces introduced as secretary of district committees of the party, said Chaudhury.
All left democratic forces will strengthen their movement with an aim to defeat the divisive forces in coming days, said Chaudhury and added that the supporters of the party are preparing their state conference amidst continuous violence and rules of terror, which began immediately after the BJP came to power.
The country is now passing through a big challenge and during the past ten years , the BJP-RSS has strengthened the fascist like policies and imposed a reign of terror across the country and now the people of Tripura have also witnessed their violent politics during the last years, said Chaudhury.
He alleged that ruling BJP has intensified their attacks against humanitarian rights along with continued attacks over the constitutional bodies of the country.
The fight against BJP in Tripura is an instance in the country, said Chaudhury and appealed to the people of the state to strengthen their movements against BJP and its ideology to restore democracy in the state.
