41st Agartala Book fair begins from March 24 at Hapania

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha appeals to all to make the 41st Agartala Book fair into a grand fair by maintaining the state’s fame and tradition.

The 41st Agartala Book fair by maintaining all traditions will be inaugurated at Hapania international fairground considering all ground facilities on March 24th next and will continue up to April 5th next.

While, speaking at the meeting of book fair organizing committee held at Muktadhara auditorium in Agartala on Friday, Dr Saha as the chairman of the organising committee said that the traditional fair of the state started from Rabindra Bhavan complex and once it has been shifted to Children Park and Umakanta Academy ground. But, now it has been shifted to Hapania international fair ground as the fair has now extended in a big arena.

He said during the fair day, the meeting of the G-20 will also be held at Agartala and representatives of different countries will participate. Thus, it is very necessary to organize the traditional book fair by maintaining tradition and fame of the state.

Speaking at the meeting the secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department said that representatives of 6-20 summit will visit the fair complex and has appealed to all to provide their best to maintain the hospitality for the foreign representatives.

Highlighting the fair details, the director of ICA department Ratan Biswas said like previous years,  the state government will provide free bus services from separate points of Agartala city  up to Hapania fair ground for easy transportation of book lovers including students.

This year, altogether 17 awards will be given during the fair and there will be a cultural programme on every fair day, said Biswas and added that last year there were 162 book stalls and hoped that this year the number of stalls will be increased.

During the meeting, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, MLA Minarani Sarkar, vice-chancellor of MBB University Satyadeo Podder and former vice-chancellor of Tripura University Prof Arunodhoy Saha along with other dignitaries were also present  and  were also shared their opinions for making Agartala book fair into a grand success.
