Agartala first Smart City to have own Data Centre
With state of art technology, the first Data Centre under Smart City Mission was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha on Monday at IT Bhavan in Indranagar area of Agartala.
The Secretary of Urban Development department Abhishek Singh, Mission Director of Agartala Smart City Limited Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav, , and Director of Information and Technology Jeya Ragul Geshan were also present. Agartala Smart City Limited has become the first Indian smart city project to launch its own Data Centre and fibre network and it has set a benchmark for other smart city projects nationwide.
Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav speaking with media persons said that this is a data centre of the integrated command and control centre of Agartala smart city. This data centre will have servers which will work 24x7 and equipment worth around Rs 30 crore which are installed in the centre. He added that the data centre was earlier hosted in the DIT Data Centre, but as there was some issue and shifting decision has been taken.
The smart elements which are present in the entire city which includes CCTV cameras, traffic signals, LED display boards, and weather information are connected with a 156 km optical fibre cable owned by Agartala Smart City.
Dr Yadav further said that the data centre has a default provision to store all data of everything that happens in the city which includes the CCTV footage for a period of 30 days at least. In some special cases like if the police officials want any data to be stored for a longer time for law and order or investigation, then it can be stored for any length of time as per their wish.
There is large data storage capacity with 1 petabyte as primary and 1.9 petabytes as secondary storage. This is one of the state-of- -art data centre and Agartala is the only smart city in the country to have its own data centre along with own optical fibre cable network and whatever will be constructed for the city or any other facility will be done from this data centre and it will be very helpful in future.
