AMC launched massive drive against encroachment, cleared Indranagar-GB road
As announced, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday has launched a massive drive against encroachment, illegal construction of buildings, shops and to clear the road from encroachment.
On Friday morning, a jumbo team of police and AMC officials with earth movers, bulldozers and JCP started their drive against encroachment and illegal constructions on government land and one after one many buildings and shops were bulldozed and AMC workers cleared the Indranagar-GB Road.
While giving details of the encroachment free drive of the AMC, Dipak Majumder said the Corporation has had a number of complaints over illegal construction of houses, flats and evading from property taxes and recently, the council has decided to launch a massive drive against encroachment and illegal constructions.
He said that before encroaching free drive, AMC had served notices to all persons, who illegally occupied the government land and roads.
The AMC under Agartala Smart City project has started construction of drains in both side Indrangar-GB Road and during demarcation of the road, the authorities found many government land and portion of road were encroached by some dwellers and some shopkeepers, said Majumder.
He said that after verifying all government records and after establishment of encroachment, the AMC had served notices to all occupiers to clear the government land. Some of the had cleared their illegal occupation and some were very reluctant to clear the government, then AMC has decided to launch massive drive across Agartala city to widening the roads and to free the city of traffic jams, said Majumder and added that process has been started and within one month through eviction drive, all illegally occupied government land and roads will be cleared.
He said that before launching the eviction drive, AMC officials had personally visited all such areas and requested all encroachers to clear the government land. But, serving notice after notice, the authorities had on Friday morning launched the eviction drive.
The Mayor and AMC commissioner had also personally interacted with traders and urged them to free all roads and lanes, which are illegally encroached by the traders for their so-called expansion of trade and they had also given time to clear encroachment, said Majumder and added that AMC has no other option to clear the encroachment by bulldozing the illegal construction.
AMC have noticed many traders have encroached the government land with unauthorized constructions, leading narrow passages in most the roads inside the GB Bazar complex, said the Mayor and added that they have requested all the traders to free their illegal encroachment within next few days, else AMC will launch eviction drive to clear unauthorized occupation.
He said that the entire GB Bazar area will be cleared from encroachment and the area will soon get rid of massive traffic jams.
Meanwhile, all the shopkeepers , who have AMC approved “Touji” will be rehabilitate with an alternative place, said Majumder and giving a seven days ultimatum to all encroachers, added that AMC has vowed for beautification of Agartala smart city and has also taken challenges against encroachment for smooth passage of city dwellers and they are very much optimistic that all traders community will extend their helping hand to help the traders as well as the general customers of the city’, said Mayor.
Majumder said that AMC has also taken cleaning drives in all covered drains of the city to get rid of inundation during the coming Monsoon season and also set up more pumps to flash out flood water from city areas.
