Assembly of Journalists (AOJ) to organize a discussion on "Journalism in the Current Context" on Jan 28
A discussion and exchange meeting titled “Journalism in the Current Context” will be held at the Agartala Press Club on January 28 afternoon under the initiative of the Assembly of Journalists (AOJ), a collective organization of journalists and media workers.
The meeting will discuss various problems of journalists in the changing situation, sense of professional responsibility, dignity and improvement of the profession and AOJ will organize this meeting with this aim so that the new generation of journalists can benefit from the experience of senior journalists.
In a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, the General Secretary of AOJ, Sanit Debroy, highlighted the organization’s focus on the safety and professional development of journalists and media workers in the state.
However, the nature, situation and context of the journalism profession are different in each state. Therefore, AOJ believes that it is important to guide the younger generation towards the future from the perspective of the past and present of journalism in Tripura through local experts. Therefore, this exceptional initiative has been taken, said Debroy
He said that workshops involving experts from other states, organized with government assistance, have been commendable. However, he emphasized that journalism varies by region and socio-political differences of states and guidance for the younger generation must come from those experienced in Tripura’s unique context.
Senior Editor Debroy also said that in recent years, two journalists were murdered in the state, many were injured, and media offices were attacked, putting independent journalism at risk. But, at present the situation has improved with pro-media support from the present state government.
Debroy has called upon the editors and journalists of all the newspapers, TV channels and web portals of the state, including journalists, to attend the meeting. Everyone can express their views on professional matters by coming to this stage of the Assembly of Journalists.
In order to ensure cent percent safety, development and professional enrichment for media workers remains a challenge and this session aims to facilitate an open discussion on these issues, said Debroy.
During the press meet, AOJ’s Vice President Dibakar Debnath, Secretary Dr. Bishwendu Bhattacharjee, Jayanta Debnath, Uttam Chakraborty, and executive members Prateek Mohanalbis , Abhijit Ghosh, Prasenjit Bhattacharjee, Subrata Ghosh, and Manish Acharjee were also present.
