Border guards seized 86 Myanmar breed cattle, detained 18 cow smugglers
In a major operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 86 Myanmar breed cattle, detained 18 cow smugglers and has also seized 20 vehicles from tri-junction of Shivbari near Machalibazar area of Manu under Dhalai on Sunday morning on way to Sonamura from Tripura-Mizoram border.
BSF sources said that acting swiftly on an intelligence input in the wee hours of Sunday, regarding the transportation of Myanmar breed cattle from Shiblong near the Tripura-Mizoram border via Axial road to Tripura from Assam by vehicles. A team of 105th battalion of BSF, closely monitored the tri-junction of Shivbari near Machalibazar under Manu police station of Dhalai district.
At about 4 AM, the cattle-carrying vehicles arrived in the target area. The BSF team intercepted 20 vehicles carrying cattle, which was led by a leading vehicle (Mahindra Scorpio), and nabbed 18 people involved in the illegal transportation of livestock.
During the search and seizure operation, the BSF team recovered a total of 86 livestock that were being transported in vehicles.
BSF added that vigilant BSF troops deployed on the extreme frontiers of the country in Tripura are effectively guarding the international border and regularly rescuing livestock and reducing crime from the bordering areas.
The Frontier headquarters in Tripura commends the BSF team for their dedication and prompt action in carrying out the seizure. The seizure will significantly impact the illegal trade of cattle trafficking and contribute to maintaining the safety and security of the region's populace.
While, sources said that this big consignment of 86 Myanmar breed cattle were brought from Myanmar and through used the smuggling corridor of Tripura-Mizoram border, which has to deliver to cow smugglers at bordering Sonamura under Sepahijala district of Tripura. But, vigilant BSF detained the entire consignment of cattle at Machalibazar.
