BSF organised free cataract surgery camp at TMC
The 200th battalion of Border Security Force (BSF), Gokulnagar organized a free cataract eye surgery camp at TMC (Agartala) on Friday under the Civic Action Programme for the year 2023-24. It has always been the endeavour of the Border Security Force to stand by the border population in their needs during the course of their duty.
Accordingly, BSF takes care of the needs of the border population. It was observed that, there are many villages in the areas of operation of 200 battalion of BSF where many cataract patients have lost their eyesight due to lack of medical facilities and proper medical guidance.
Keeping this in mind, 200 Bn BSF Gokulnagar under the aegis of Tripura Medical College (TMC), Hapania organized a free cataract eye surgery camp phase-I on Friday in which 13 patients received high quality eye lenses and related medicines, free of cost by BSF. Further in phase-II camp another remaining 21 patients will undergo free cataract surgery.
During this camp, checkup of patients, screening of eyes were carried out with the help of the Department of Ophthalmology of TMC and post-operative medicines were also distributed free of cost. Mukesh Kumar Verma, Commandant of the battalion and Dr. L N Chemdok, Medical Officer, 200 Bn BSF interacted with patients and their attendants. The patients expressed their heartfelt gratitude to BSF for restoring their lost vision. Dr. A K Chakma, Professor and HOD of department of Ophthalmology, TMC along with his team of doctors and medical staff helped in successful completion of this eye surgery camp.
