CM to inaugurate International Mother's Language Day celebration at Agartala
The International Mother's Language Day to be observed across Tripura on Wednesday (February 21st) by organizing cultural programmes, patriotic ,folk songs, poetry , cultural activities with colourful processions, functions, discussions, seminars and other programmes.
Addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday, the special secretary of Education department, Raval Hemendra Kumar said that the Education department in association with Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh at Agartala with UNESCO’s resolution and the theme of International Mother Language Day celebration 2024 is “Multilingual education is a pillar of intergenerational learning”.
He said that in Agartala, the main programme to mark the day as hundreds of students both from tribals and non-tribals communities and people from all walks of life organize a colourful rally at 7 AM and the main function will be held at Agartala town hall.
Later, at 9 AM of the Wednesday morning Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will inaugurate the statewise programme for celebration of international mother language day at town hall in presence of assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh, Arif Mohammad.
The people of eastern India and Bangladesh played leading roles for the introduction of the International Mother Language Day in 1999 by UNESCO and the people of Tripura have also paid their respect to the martyrs of the language movement in 1952. In the 1952 Language Movement, many Bangladeshis laid down their lives for supporting Bengali as a state language during the Pakistani rule.
The International Mother Tongue Day celebration gives respect to all languages across the globe and was first declared in 1999. People of India and Bangladesh always came together to celebrate the day with mutual brotherhood.
