Congress, SFI slams govt over poor performance by Vidyajyoti schools in CBSE results
After poor performance by Vidyajyoti schools of Tripura in CBSE board examinations, the opposition Congress and Left student body slams the state government.
Altogether 125 schools run by Tripura government were handed over to the CBSE under the ambitious Vidyajyoti scheme in 2022 to equip them with state-of-the-art infrastructure, but, two days ago after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced board exam results for Class 10 and 12, the Congress in Tripura has hit out at the BJP-led state government for the poor show by the students of 125 Vidyajyothi schools.
Select schools run by the state government were handed over to the CBSE under the ambitious Vidyajyoti scheme in 2022 to equip them with state-of-the-art infrastructure and streamline the state’s education system parallel with that of the Center’s.
While reacting over the poor performance, Tripura Pradesh Congress president, Ashish Kumar Saha alleged that the state government made these schools “business oriented intentions” and without infrastructures, is playing with the lives of hundreds of students.
A student from Khowai after he failed in HS examination committed suicide and who will take the responsibility of the tragic end of the student. He demanded the scheme and took initiatives to make the schools free for all students irrespective of their economic situation.
Saha urged the government to form a panel led by educationists to discuss how the Vidyajyoti scheme can be made free for all students.
The Congress are not against the Vidyajyoti school project, but , party feels that it is creating division among students in society, where students who can pay are allowed to study in these schools, said Saha.
He alleged the fail percentage surpassed pass percentage in Vidyajyoti schools situated on the outskirts of Agartala and in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas.
Quoting media reports, Saha said a large number of students, in many cases over half of the total student strength, failed to qualify for higher studies and as of suddenly, the government forced them to change their medium of language, which is very difficult in higher classes like ten and twelve.
Saha added that if the state government doesn’t take any proper initiative to address the problems of students, then Congress will organize statewide agitations.
He also alleged that the Vidyajyothi scheme had some business motives and it was projected as part of the political advertisement of the BJP.
Earlier, 125 Vidyajyoti schools, which used to be under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), were selected under the Vidyajyoti project with Rs 500-crore investment. Some of these schools used to be among the highest scoring schools of Tripura when under the TBSE’s jurisdiction.
