Container vehicle driver arrested with cough syrup worth Rs. 10 lakh
Police have arrested one driver of a container vehicle for carrying banned cough syrup from ‘the Khayerpur Bypass’ under Bodhjungnagar police station.
The arrested driver identified as Jogen Hazarika has been forwarded to a local court seeking police remand.
“Based on a tip-off, a police team headed by Sub-Inspector Krishna Debbarma rushed to Khayerpur Bypass road on Thursday and found some labourers were off-loading cartoons of cough syrup. We seized 12 cartoons of cough syrup with market value of Rs. 10 lakh. The driver was also booked under NDPS Act”, said a senior police officer.
An investigation has already got underway, he said adding the arrested driver is from Assam.
It appeared, the container vehicle came from Assam with different goods including banned cough syrup dozing the police checkups at Churaibari check gate.
