Two Tripura cadre officers including a district magistrate (DM) and a SP have been awarded by the Election Commission of India (ECI) with “Best Electoral Practice Awards-2023” along with officials of other states.

A press statement issued by the ECI on January 17, 2024 notified the names of officer awardees in four categories. Altogether 13 officers from across the country have been awarded by the Commission in recognition of their service in elections held in the year 2023.

Two officers of Tripura belonging to the all India cadre have been selected for the prestigious award. They are Saju Vaheed (IAS), currently holding the post of DM of South Tripura and the second recipient of the award from the state is Ramesh Chand Yadav (IPS),  SP of Dhalai district. While Saju Vaheed has been awarded for ensuring ‘accessible elections’, and Ramesh Chand Yadav has been selected for the award for ‘security management’. The award has been announced in four categories which are ‘General Award’, ‘Special Award’, ‘Award for government department/ Agency/PSU’ and ‘Best Performing State Award’.
