ECI launched “Mission Violence Free Election- 2024” in Tripura
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday launched the “Mission Violence Free Election- 2024” in Tripura to ensure 100 percent violence free elections.
Launching the “Mission Violence Free Election- 2024”, Chief Secretary J K Sinha said that to conduct the elections to the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura, since Last month 2500 flag march and area domination patrolling were conducted by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the state forces.
He said that various law enforcing agencies have seized various contraband and items worth Rs 9 crore during the past one month.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura, Puneet Agarwal said that in the previous Lok Sabha elections, 83 percent votes were recorded and in the 18th Lok Sabha polls the target is to exceed the 2019 voting percentage.
He said that the ‘Home Voting” for the elderly and otherwise abled voters would start on April 10 and will continue upto April 12 for West Tripura PC and the same would start from April 17 and to continue up to April 18 next for East Tripura parliamentary constituency.
Election officials said that to achieve the “Mission Violence Free Election- 2024”, eight point strategies were undertaken by the authorities.
The strategies include, flag march, road march by the CAPF shall go on to ensure confidence building among the political workers for campaigning and among the citizens to cast their votes freely without any fear, the security forces have been deployed well before the poll process so that they get familiar with the locality, setting up adequate Naka points (check gates) to monitor the illegal movement of arms, persons to vitiate the poll process.
The other measures included use of deterrent measures like web-casting of poll process etc. in compliance to the Election Commission’s instruction relating to multiple civil measures and deployment of adequate security personnel.
Director General of Tripura police, Amitabh Ranjan, Home Secretary Dr Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag, state police nodal officer G S Rao, top officials of CAPF, District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendent of Police (SPs) of all eight districts were present in the event.
