Editor Sanit Debroy’s prompt intervention leads to arrest of an auto rickshaw driver, involved in assault to an editor and his wife

Veteran editor Sanit Debroy’s immediate intervention leads to arrest of an errant auto-rickshaw driver involved in assault to V-News editor Arghyajyoti Dutta and his wife on Friday night in Agartala.

After the incident, Veteran Editor of ‘AJKER Fariad’ newspaper Sanit Debroy immediately spoke to SDPO(Sadar) to take immediate action in which another editor of an electronic channel and wife were abused by that accused auto rickshaw driver.

While, Assembly of Journalists (AoJ) through a press statement strongly condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against accused driver.

AoJ in its statement said that V-News editor Arghyajyoti Dutta and his wife were attacked late Friday night in the Bhati Abhoynagar area of Agartala. The incident occurred when an auto-rickshaw dangerously overtook Arghyajyoti’s car, leading to a heated altercation. As the situation escalated, the auto driver, Rikitan Das, allegedly assaulted Arghyajyoti Dutta and his wife.

On behalf of AoJ Abhijit Ghost said that according to Dutta, several other miscreants were accompanying the auto driver during the attack. Following the incident, Assembly of Journalists (AOJ) General Secretary Sanit Debroy intervened, prompting swift police action. The accused auto driver, Rikitan Das, was arrested, and a case was filed by Dutta at West Agartala Police Station. Police have registered the case under specific sections of BNS.

Members of the Assembly of Journalists have also strongly condemned the incident and demanded the maximum punishment for the accused auto driver as per the law, said Ghosh.
