G-20 delegations arrives Agartala, given rousing welcome
A delegation of about 75 members of G-20 including officials from Central government has arrived in the state capital on Sunday afternoon to participate in the Science Summit, which will be held at Agartala from April 3rd to 4th with theme of “Clean energy for a Green Future” and delegates were given rousing welcome in Agartala airport and on way to a hotel.
All the delegates were received and welcomed at the airport by the secretaries of Industries and Commerce department Abhishek Chandra, DR P K Chakraborty of ICA and director of ICA Ratan Biswas.
On the way to their hotel, the delegates were welcomed with traditional dances and beats of drums in different spots of the Airport road.
On Monday , the delegates to participate in the Science conclave for “Clean Energy for a Green Future” to be held in Agartala’s Hapania international fair ground with the theme of “Clean energy for a Green Future”.
In the afternoon, the G-20 delegates visited Albert Ekka Park and paid their floral tributes to the war memorial. The Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav briefed the team about the significance of the park by highlighting the history. The team of delegation has also planted saplings of “Nageshwar’ tree in the park. Later, the delegation visited the Kumari Tilla lake and park and watched a light and sound show. During their visit to the Kumari Tilla park, the secretary of Industries and Commerce Abhishek Chandra accompanied them.
The second Science-20 (S-20) meeting is scheduled to take place in Agartala from 3rd- 4th April 2023. The inaugural meeting of the second Science-20 summit is to take place at Hapania International indoor fair ground in Agartala on Monday with theme of “Clean energy for a Greener Future”
A total of 23 foreign delegates will attend the second Science-20 meeting which includes delegates from 14 G-20 countries along with invited members from 9 other countries and delegates from various research and academic institutions across India are also participating in the Agartala S20 meeting. A total of 90 delegates will attend the second Scence-20 meeting.
The Second meeting of the Science-20 will focus on the unequal distribution of energy availability and the use of novel technologies developed by academia around the world in order to address the unequal distribution of energy.
The meeting will have deliberation to encourage common sharing space, openness in terms of intellectual property, and technology transfer which can help address energy poverty and create more opportunities for clean and green hydrogen energy, thereby addressing climate change problems in general.
Through this Second science-20 meeting, the aim will be to prepare a framework to facilitate innovative research in environmentally responsible technology. The meeting will also deliberate on a shared platform for these technologies can be created and participating institutions can run pilots across the world for a better understanding of both global economics and adaptability of the technology.
The S20 Engagement Group, comprising the national science academies of the G20 countries, was initiated during Germany’s Presidency in 2017. It presents policymakers with consensus-based science-driven recommendations formulated through task forces comprising international experts.
India, as the President of G20, will aspire to make G20 truly “inclusive, ambitious, decisive, and action-oriented”, as exhorted by Prime Minister NarendraModi. The agenda of S20 reflects this principle in the planning and use of science for inclusive and sustainable development.
The theme for Science-20 this year is Disruptive Science for Innovative and Sustainable Development. Under this broad theme, the subsequent meetings of the S20 will focus on three areas: clean energy for a greener future, universal holistic health, and connecting science to society and culture. The venues for the subsequent meetings, Bangaram Island (Lakshadweep), and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). The final summit meeting will take place in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu).
G-20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US, and the European Union (EU).
