Govt prioritize socio-economic development of OBC, Santana Chakma
With a motto of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas”, the Tripura working round the clock for socio-economical upliftment of other backward communities (OBC) of the state along with other communities, said OBC Welfare Minister Santana Chakma.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, the Minister is highlighting the government’s schemes and programmes for OBC including their education and socio-economic development. She said that among the government’s schemes, the pre-matric scholarship for the OBC students from class-one to ten and in the financial year 2022-23, a total of 25,696 applications submitted in the national scholarship portal.
Till date, the scholarship for 3,950 students has already been approved with a sum of Rs. 59.25 lakh.
Similarly, 20,073 applications for post-matric scholarship have also been submitted and a sum of Rs. 21.17 crore has been distributed among the 7,540 students.
The meritorious students, who has passed the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations under Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) has been awarded with DR B R Ambedkar memorial gold medals with sum of Rs. 25,000 each, said Chakma and added that other successful students were also awarded with different categories of merit awards.
The department has also provided financial assistance to the poor patients of the community along with other financial support to the OBC including for fisheries, educational loans and loans for rubber growers etc.
