Incessant rain, mud wall collapsed, couple killed, two daughters injured
In a tragic incident, both husband-wife killed and their two minor daughters are battling for life in hospital after a mud wall collapsed on their house during incessant rain on Tuesday midnight at Meghli Para area of Ranir Bazar under West Tripura district.
Sources said that during incessant rain on Tuesday midnight at about 12.30 AM, a mud wall of neighbour house collapsed on the tin made house of Pranesh Tanti, who along with his wife Juma Tanti and two daughters Piyo (3 months old) and Roya (9) were deep sleep.
After the mud wall straightly fell on their bed, they were all rescued under the debris, but Juma Tanti was recovered as spot dead.
After the incident, local villagers called the firefighters and Ranir Bazar police station for rescue operation, but after repeated calls, none of firefighters or police arrived at the spot. Then, villagers with their own effort , somehow rescued Pranesh Tanti and his two daughters and immediately shifted them to GB Hospital in critical condition.
Three years old daughter was admitted to the ICU, but in the Wednesday morning, Pranesh Tanti also succumbed due to his critical injuries. While, on Wednesday afternoon, injured Riya Tanti was released from the hospital, but the condition of three years old Piyo is very critical.
On Wednesday after post-mortem, the bodies of both husband and wife were handed over to their relatives for last rites.
Chief Minister Dr Mani Saha through his social media post expressed his deep condolences over the unfortunate death of Pranesh and wife.
“Pranesh and Jhuma Tanti of the same family of Khayerpur’ s Mekhlipara village Panchayat lost their lives in a landslide due to excessive rainfall. Their two daughters aged 4 months and 9 years are under treatment. I am deeply saddened by this incident,” said Dr Saha.
He also said that the state government and administration have already taken necessary steps. Apart from the financial help, the government will support this family completely.
The District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura district, Dr Vishal Kumar visited the incident spot and met the members of the victim's family. He also handed over financial support to a kin of the deceased family. Local MLA Ratan Chakraborty also met the victim family and expressed his condolences.
