Manik Sarkar, Brindra Karat sharply reacted PM’s statements, urges to allow ECI work impartially
Opposition leader Manik Sarkar reacting sharply over the statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a mass rally at Vivekananda stadium in Agartala on Sunday said that uttered only falsehood and suppressed the burning issues of the state.
Addressing a mass rally organised by All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), Tripura state branch in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Monday, Sarkar slammed PM Modi over alleged growing rate of crime against women and huge unemployment rate in Tripura.
Sarkar claimed that Sunday’s meeting was a government sponsored party meeting and the PM only set off the BJP’s campaign for the 2023 assembly election, but unable to gather less than 1 % of tribal population because during 57 months of BJP-IPFT rule, the condition of hilly people deteriorated.
He took exception to the PM’s comment that insurgency and violence had flourished under the previous government, saying that with serious political initiative and deployment by the previous Left Front governments had put an end to decade’s old armed insurgency in Tripura. He said that BJP has re-enter criminal and miscreants activities in the state and since last 57 months and they continue their violent activities upon the supporters of opposition parties.
Sarkar said that the suffering of people is now at the peak due to ‘double-engine’ attacks on high-inflation and poor rationing systems.
He asked why not PM Modi did not utter any word on the high-unemployment rate of the state and non-fill up of thousands of vacant posts.
“Whatever the PM had announced and inaugurated are all projects initiated during the LF rule; but the most amazing thing is his reference to bloodshed and insurgency during the previous regime; the LF had settled the problem but now bloodshed is happening at the hands of the BJP workers and supporters and people are suffering,”, said Manik and added that there is no rule of law and no existence of constitution in Tripura.
Sarkar also criticized the governments for reducing fund flow towards the ADC administration and claimed they are continuously depriving the people living in ADC areas of the state. He also asked why the PM was silent over large-scale political violence sponsored by his party in Tripura.
Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Assembly Manik Sarkar on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the Election Commission of India (ECI) to function "impartially" in Tripura, where Assembly polls are due early next year.
The poll panel has become "inactive" under the current dispensation resulting in an "uneven ground" for the opposition parties, said Sarkar and added that if the Modi government has respect for democracy, they should allow the ECI to function impartially and fairly .
Since the formation of the BJP government, all the elections held in the state vitiated the democratic exercise and they made all elections into farce and prevented people from exercising their democratic rights, said Sarkar .
Sarkar also appealed to all women gathered at the rally to increase their public contact for a united fight against oppression politics of BJP and a greater movement to oust the BJP government in next elections to restore democracy in the state.
Addressing the rally, women leader and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat also slammed the both state and central government over increasing crime against women.
“PM said that Tripura is now discuss across the country, but we want to say Modi Ji do you speak to the women of the state, how many gang raped incidents held in the state and how many party man are involved with gang rapes,” said Mrs Karat and added that they are saying women empowerment, but everyday 86 women are raped in the country.
She also asked why not ‘Nirbhaya’ funds are not utilized for women protection and claimed that instead of the ‘HIRA’ model, BJP has made the state as heaven for drugs.
The country had witnessed Emergency but never saw such a scale of attack on the country's parliamentary democracy and even now the Supreme Court had to seek an explanation from the government on how the Election Commissioner was appointed, said Mrs. Karat.
Mrs. Karat also women of Tripura are now preparing themselves to give a befitting reply of five years of misrule to ruling BJP.
