Massive preparations in final stage amid tight security for vital NEC plenary meet in Agartala
Amid tight security, the capital city Agartala gearing up to host all-important plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) on December 20-21, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Governors and Chief Ministers of all eight northeastern states and union minister of state for DoNER, Sukanta Majumder will attend the meet.
Three days before the mega event, massive administrative preparation is going on and keeping in view of the present unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, the state administration has also adopted the highest standard of security measures.
Police sources said the joint patrolling has also started along the international border with capital city of Agartala and other parts of the state in view of the upcoming two-day plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) and BSF has been asked to tighten the security in the entire border. The joint patrolling has been conducted by state police, TSR and BSF in all sensitive areas near Indo-Bangla border.
Official sources said that all important tourist spots across Agartala have been renovated as the NEC delegation will visit some tourist destinations, but the proposed visit of tourist destinations is yet to be finalized.
A day before the plenary session, a meeting among secretaries will be held in a hotel in the city on December 19.
Apart from two days NEC plenary session, Union Home Minister and chairman of NEC, Amit Shah will visit Bru settlement camp at Bruha Para(Haduklau Para) and a public meeting at Masurai Para under Dhalai district on December 22. On the same day, Shah will address the National Cooperative conference-2024 at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
Sources said that Amit Shah will also join a BJP organizational meeting in Agartala at party headquarters in presence of state leaders and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that this is for the second time, Agartala will host the NEC plenary meeting and it’s a proud moment for Tripura.
He said that there are lots of issues related to the state's border and pending developmental projects to be highlighted from Tripura and the government will also highlight all innovative works completed by the Tripura government.
Dr Saha said that he had attended a high level review meeting with all concerned officials to give a final shave over the preparation for the two days meeting.
On December 10 last, Chief Minister inspected various locations in Tripura for the 72nd Plenary Session of the North East Council (NEC) and said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive for the event on December 20.
He said that in 50 years of NEC, many infrastructural developmental activities were completed across all NE states and established many institutes of national excellence under the guidance of NEC.
Noting that the role and scope of NEC has been increased under the Act East Policy and the Prime Minister Narenda Modi under his ‘Act East policy’ has achieved significant success in solving the problems of law and order, insurgency and borders in this region.
Along with this, work has also been done to promote the use of technology in administration by using North-Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC).
He said that the language, culture, food, attire and natural beauty of Northeast will give a great boost to this region in global tourism.
It may be recalled here that the Union Home Minister is the ex-Officio Chairman while the DoNER Minister is the ex-Officio Vice-Chairman of the NEC.
