Over success of mass rally, ‘frustrated’ ruling party resorted violent attacks on CPI (M) supporters, Jitendra Chowdhury
Referring comments made by state BJP’s vice president Dr Ashok Sinha over the remarks of opposition leader Manik Sarkar for a united struggle by all secular forces against BJP, CPI (M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury claimed that it’s not an appeal for pre-poll alliance.
Chowdhury tried to clear all misunderstanding over the call given by the former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to all secular forces to unite and said that the 23rd party Congress has entrusted all state units to choose their pre-poll alliance if there is any need.
Addressing a press conference here at CPI (M) headquarters on Saturday evening, CPI (M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury highlighting the success of party’s mass rally at Vivekananda stadium and obstructions, attacks on their supporters by ruling party workers in different parts of the state, Chowdhury said that based on the resolution taken in last 23rd party Congress, CPI(M) always in favour of united face of all secular forces. He said that the party Congress has allowed all the state units to choose the political alliance for elections if necessary and any unit can go for alliance or fight against their opponent without any alliance.
He said that party’s polit bureau member and opposition leader Manik Sarkar in the mass rally has also urged the secular forces to come together against oppression and divisive politics of BJP, but it’s not an appeal for pre-poll alliance.
He said that CPI(M) along with other left parties are capable of ousting the BJP from Tripura and if any pre-poll alliance is needed , then the party will take its decision in appropriate time.
While highlighting the success and obstacles on Friday’s mass rally, Jitendra Chowdhury said that the ‘necked’ face of ruling BJP was exposed on Friday and they had taken all steps to thwart their rally and many CPI (M) supporters had suffered injuries during attacks by the ruling party.
Despite many attempts, thousands of CPI (M) from different parts of the state had participated in the rally along with common people to strengthen the movement against the 55 months misrule of the BJP-IPFT government.
He alleged that ruling party and their affiliated union BMS workers have stopped hundreds vehicles boarded with party supporters , who were on way to Agartala to join the rally, even government machineries have also reduced the coaches of Dharmanagar-Agartala and Sabroom-Agartala local trains.
Giving details of the attacks on their rally-bound supporters in many parts, Chowdhury said that when people after attending the rally were returning their houses were also attacked and many supporters were also hospitalized.
The party has deported 30 buses at Agartala railway station and BMS workers were not allowed to run 25 buses and they also hijacked two buses from station, said Chowdhury and added that in absence of any transportation from Agartala station towards Agartala city, thousands of party supporters reached the rally venue on foots by covering distance of about 9 kilometers.
He said that ruling BJP over frustration seeing support of common people had launched statewide attacks since Friday night. "A total lawlessness prevails across the state and violent politics of BJP have also continued for the past 55 months," said Chowdhury and added that peace loving people will strengthen their movements against the BJP government in coming days to restore democracy in Tripura.
