Press Club elections to be held on Feb 26, DM withdraw advice
The District Magistrate of West Tripura in a letter to the President and Secretary of Agartala Press Club on Thursday advised to conduct the elections with few conditions for ensuring peace and tranquility in the areas.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the DM(West) had advised not to hold the election for new Managing Committee as per schedule on February 26 following a report from the Superintendent of Police.
On Thursday, District Magistrate (West) reviewed the decision following several representations in favour of holding an election as per schedule. Accordingly, in another letter from District Magistrate to the President and Secretary of the Agartala Press Club said that the election can be conducted as per schedule on certain conditions including there shall be no rally or meeting after and before the election, election must be conducted in closed premises of complex and the police authority must be informed about the time and venue of the election 24 hours before voting.
While, on Thursday evening during a press conference, Sandip Datta Choudhury, Returning Officer (RO) for the election said the election will be held as per schedule. Though, elections for the post of secretary, assistant secretary and vice president will not be held as candidates of these posts won the election uncontested.
