RPF of NFR recovered smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 1.64 crore in three days, Six apprehended
Continuing the fight against transportation of contraband, smuggled goods in trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered contraband goods worth more Rs. 1.64 crore during the period from 23rd to 25th of August, 2023. RPF also apprehended six persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband, smuggled goods during this period.
In a recent incident on 25th August, 2023, RPF of Dimapur conducted checking at Dimapur Railway Station. During checking, they detected one unclaimed bag and recovered 550 grams Brown Sugar worth about Rs. 1.10 crore which were concealed in 50 soap cases. Later, the recovered Brown Sugar was handed over to OC-GRP of Dimapur for disposal.
In an incident on 24th August, 2023, RPF and GRP of Agartala conducted checking in train No. 13173 UP (Kanchanjunga Express) at Agartala railway station. During checking, they apprehended three persons and recovered 788 bottles cough syrup, valued Rs. 1.38 lakhs (approx.) from the train. Later, the apprehended persons along with the recovered cough syrup were handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for necessary legal action.
Moreover, in different drives and checks conducted on 23rd and 24th August, 2023, RPF of N. F. Railway recovered 10,200 kgs Areca Nuts worth Rs. 51 lakhs (approx.), 936 bottles cough syrup worth Rs. 1.64 lakhs (approx.) and 48 bottles liquor worth approx. Rs. 7440.00 from different trains and stations. Three persons were also apprehended on 23rd August, 2023 for illegal possession of cough syrup. Later, recovered contrabands along with apprehended persons were handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
It may be mentioned here that RPF of NF Railway has detected 434 cases of illegal carrying of contraband/smuggled goods during the period from January to July, 2023 and recovered contraband/smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 13.36 crore. During this period, RPF also apprehended 250 persons for illegal carrying of contraband/smuggled goods.
