Six NLFT extremists surrendered with arms

Six extremists of NLFT (Parimal Debbarma) group on Friday surrendered before police with arms and ammunition.

Police sources said that coming under pressure of concerted psychological and physical operations by Tripura police, on Friday six NLFT (Parimal Debbarma) group extremists namely Jatindra Tripura (36) alias Modi, Mokhiram Tripura (36), Pradip Tripura (27), Romawia Reang (50) alias Empro, Johanjoy Reang (36) and Mani Charan Tripura (38) alias Bocheng crossed over to Indian territory from their hideout in Bangladesh to join the main stream of life and surrendered before Tripura police.

All the extremists surrendered before the DIG (Intelligence), Krishnendu Chakravertty at Special Branch (SB) headquarters in Agartala with two Chinese rifles, one country made sten gun, six 70 mm live rounds, two Chinese grenade, 15 live rounds of 7.62, two extortion notice books and Bangladeshi currency of Taka-1000.

Police said that the group of six having been cornered and getting motivated, renounced the path of bloodshed and made a choice of peace. This group of NLFT(PD) has been operationally very active across the fence in Bangladesh and they joined extremist outfits in between 2017 and 2022.

Police added that since January 2022, a large number of NLFT cadres surrendered before security forces and so far, 36 active members of NLFT surrendered before Tripura police and other security forces. With the surrender of six cadres on Friday, Tripura has made a remarkable pathway in making the state insurgency free.

It is a significant achievement for Tripura police as far as militancy is concerned. It will surely further pave the way for remaining fractions of NLFT to make a beeline for peace abjuring violence. It is definitely a committed effort by Tripura police for ensuring the goal of law-and-order and development, said police.
