Swearing of elected Gram Panchayat members to start from Aug 23rd
The swearing in ceremony of newly elected members of three-tier Gram Panchayats will start from August 23 and will continue up to September 14 next.
The Director of the Panchayat department, Prasun Dey said, the swearing-in ceremony of the elected members of the Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti will start from August 23 and will continue up to August 31st. He said that all the elected Gram Panchayat members will take their oath at their respective Gram Panchayat offices and elected members of Panchayat Samities will take their oath at their respective Block offices.
The oath for elected Zilla Parishad members will begin from September 7th and will continue up to September 14 next and all elected members will take their oath of office in their respective District Magistrate (DM) offices.
The three-tier Gram Panchayat elections were held in Tripura on August 8 and results were declared on August 12.
According to State Election Commission (SEC) officials, the ruling BJP, before the August 8 elections, won 4,806 (70 per cent) of the total of 6,909 seats unopposed in the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zilla Parishads and elections were held (on August 8) in 1,819 seats in 606 gram panchayats, 188 seats in 35 Panchayat Samitis, and 96 seats in eight Zilla Parishads.
As per the results, counting of which started on August 12, completed on August 13, the BJP out of 116 seats in eight Zilla Parishads, won 113 seats through election and uncontested, while the Congress secured two seats and CPI(M) one.
In 35 Panchayat Samitis, out of the total of 423 seats, BJP won 403 seats through election and uncontested, and Congress managed eight seats, CPI(M) seven and one by an Independent candidate while results of the remaining four seats are yet to be announced.
In 606 Gram Panchayats, out of 6,370 seats, BJP secured 5,883 seats, Congress won 138 seats, CPI(M) 137 seats, Tipra Motha, an ally of BJP, bagged 102 seats and independents got 20 seats .Out of the total of 6,909 seats in three-tiers, 33 per cent seats are reserved for women.
