Tipra-Motha mass rally: Pradyot calls for strengthening movements for ‘Greater Tipraland’

The opposition Tipra-Motha through a massive rally held at headquarters of ADC, Khumwlung on Saturday calls for larger movements across the state in support of their ‘Greater Tipraland’ and constitutional solution demands.

Addressing the large gathering at the headquarters of Autonomous District (council (ADC) in presence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and other top leaders of Motha, Tipra-Motha’s supremo and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that they would not compromise to achieve their demands and after ensuing Durga Puja, Motha will launch statewide greater movements in November to awake the people in Delhi.

"We would continue to fight for achieving the democratic rights of 15 lakh tribals in Tripura,they (tribals) are deprived and tribal dominated areas remain backward," said Pradyot while criticising the national media for not adequately covering the issues of deprivation of Northeastern states.

Announcing a bigger agitation after the festive season, Debbarma also urged all communities of tribals to come together to raise the issues unitedly and should strengthen the ‘Thansa’ (unity) among all tribal communities.

“We are not against any community, religion and we believe in democracy and will strengthen our movements without any violence to protect the future of all ‘Tiprasha’ (tribals),” said Pradyot and has also called for stronger bonding among all tribal communities of Northeastern states to ensure their rights.

Mentioning desertion of some leaders and forming their own parties, Pradyot slamming the leaders without naming them claimed that some people are continuously trying to divide the Thansa and luring people. But, in reality they are not getting anything and destroying the future of lakhs of tribal population of Tripura. He also warned that they believe in democracy and peace, but anybody is trying to divide them by giving lollipops, then Tipra-Motha will not tolerate the conspiracy to destroy the unity among tribals.

Meanwhile, addressing the large gathering, where thousands tribal from different parts of the state gathered at Khumwlung, the  Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that all tribal and indigenous communities in the Northeast must be united and raise their voice jointly to protect the life, culture, language and traditions of the people of the region.

Sangma said if anybody tries to damage the life, culture, language and traditions of the indigenous people they will fight jointly. Expressing his solidarity towards the demands of Tipra-Motha, Sangma said that all communities of Northeast should strengthen the movement to protect the future generation of indigenous people.

"We have to protect the future of our youths. We would not remain silent against any deprivation to the tribals and indigenous people," Sangma said, adding that they have to be confident that one day their dreams would be fulfilled.

He also said that they are not against any community or any individuals and leaders from the Northeast for many years from time to time raised various demands of the tribals and indigenous people of the region in different ways but still there are many things to achieve.

During the rally, president of Tipra-Motha Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhwal, opposition leader of Tripura , Animesh Debbarma and other leaders of Motha also addressed the gathering and vowed to strengthen their movements to get their legitimate rights.

The mammoth rally was organized by the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), which is now governing the TTAADC, in support of its demand for a 'Greater Tipraland State' or a separate state status for the tribals under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution.
