Tipra-Motha to launch movements in supports of demands for GT, roman script, VC polls
A day after demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan seeking Governor’s intervention to full their demands, the regional Tipra-Motha on Saturday organized a high level meeting of all elected MLAs, Executive Members (EMs) and Member of District Council (MDCs) along with all other top leaders of the party to finalize their plan for statewide movements.
After the meeting, held at Ujjayanta palace, Tipra-Motha’s supremo and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma speaking with media persons said that within next 20 to 25 days, the party will restructure all the organizations from primary level to core committee including YTF and TWF.
Pradyot said that they have elaborate discussions over their demands of ‘Greater Tiprland’, constitutional solution of their demand and movement for Roman script for Kokborok language .
Pradyot accused the state government for playing with the emotions of indigenous people of Tripura, noting that a significant number of Bills, which were cleared by the TTAADC, did not receive the Governor’s mandatory assent to get enacted as Law.
He said that many important Bills including customary laws and Land Bill are pending for the consent of the Governor, which increase the suffering of indigenous people of the state.
Terming the unprecedented delay as the government’s “step motherly” attitude, Debbarma said that the people living in the TTAADC areas are facing multi-pronged challenges. Water crisis is acute in some parts. Basic amenities like health and education are in a fragile state. The educated youth are running from pillar to post for jobs. To highlight all these issues, they sought an appointment with the Governor, who is the constitutional guardian of TTAADC but he seems to be not willing to meet them, said Pradyot.
He added that all elected representatives of Tipra-Motha have moral responsibilities for their people's rights and to get justice, now Motha has decided to hit the streets of the state through democratic movements.
“We cannot sit idle and if the government continuously denies us from our legitimate rights, then we have no option other than mass movements across the state,” said Pradyot.
“Today, we indigenous people of Tripura are being forced to live like second class citizens in their motherland. The indigenous people of Tripura deserved to live with dignity, peace and prosperity, but unfortunately, the sheer negligence of the state administration has led to unrest among the people,” said Pradyot and added that they will strengthen their movements to get justice for all ‘Tiprasa’ (indigenous people).
He also alleged that long deprivation by the state administration have also curtailed the democratic rights of indigenous people and Motha warriors will also strengthen their movements demanding early Village Committee (VC) elections.
Pradyot said that on Friday in their letter to the Governor, they have categorically said that if the state government does not act swiftly to settle their demands, then they will launch mass agitation across the state.
“The Tipra-Motha’s protests would not be against any particular community. Those who have deceived us will be the target through our protests. There is a trend of branding every agitation as communal, but we deprived people have no other option,” said Pradyot.
