Voters of two booths boycotts voting demanding roads, water, electricity
The voters of two booths under East Tripura Parliamentary Constituency on Friday did not exercise their franchise as the villagers of both booths are the worst sufferers of decade long deprivation in terms of development and on Friday boycotted the voting process despite repeated appeals from poll officials.
Official sources said that around 1059 voters of Maldapara village under Ganganagar RD Bloc of Dhalai district (booth number 5 of 44-Raimavalley assembly segment) and 649 voters of number-3 booth of 41-Ampinagar assembly segment has boycotted the voting process demanding the immediate construction of their village road, drinking water facilities etc .
The villages of both these polling booths in groups staged demonstrations in roads demanding drinking water facilities, walk-able roads and timely payment of their dues under MGNREGA. These villagers are also suffering from frequent load-shedding and even many parts of these villages are yet to get electric connections.
Returning Officer (RO) of East Tripura PC, Saju Vaheed speaking with our reported said that as soon as he heard the incident of vote boycott by the villagers of Sadai Mohan Roaja Para under Raimavalley assembly seat, the assistant returning officer (ARO) immediately rushed to the spot and tried to convince the voters to exercise their franchise.
He said that till 1 PM of Friday note votes reach polling stations to cast their voters.
He added that during the election process , the district administration could not do any developmental activities in these villages and after the polling process was over and after withdrawal of restriction of MCC, the administration would definitely resolve their problems. He also appealed to the voters to exercise their democratic rights as per their choice, but till 5 PM, no villagers cast their votes.
Later, in the Friday evening CEO, Tripura, Puneet Agarwal said that out of 1059 voters of Maldapara village under Ganganagar RD Bloc of Dhalai district (booth number 5 of 44-Raimavalley assembly segment) , only 12 voters cast their votes and among 649 voters of number-3 booth of 41-Ampinagar assembly segment, only two voters cast their votes.
