In response to questions about potential contract losses related to Google Search, such as those with Apple, and the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) proposed remedies in a significant antitrust case, Pichai stated that Google intends to challenge the ruling firmly.

“We are fully committed to defending these cases. Some of the early proposals from the DOJ have been quite broad-reaching,” Pichai said.

“I believe these could have unintended consequences, especially for the tech sector’s dynamism and US leadership in technology, and we plan to respond strongly,” Pichai added.

Although Pichai refrained from detailing Google’s exact legal strategy, he reiterated Google’s position as the “best” search engine.

“Given that the case is ongoing, it’s not appropriate for me to speculate. However, we have achieved success through deep innovation, as acknowledged by the court, and continue to innovate,” he explained.

“Consumers and partners alike choose us because they see our product as the best. Over the years, we have consistently worked to make our services easily accessible across platforms. This approach has given us a solid foundation,” he added.

This is not Pichai’s first statement contesting the judge’s decision. He has previously acknowledged that scrutiny of Google is “inevitable,” given the scale of the company’s operations.
