IndiGo's plan involves short-term wet leases for these 11 planes initially, followed by consideration of longer dry leases for an additional 11 aircraft, according to sources, reported Moneycontrol, it added.

These aircraft are slated for a six-month acquisition period, and the airline plans to take delivery of these planes in the next two weeks.

This development comes as the company acknowledges that issues related to engines supplied by Pratt & Whitney will impact some of its aircraft.

In October 2022, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved IndiGo's request to wet lease aircraft for a period of six months.

Wet leasing is a type of aircraft leasing arrangement where the leasing company provides the aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance to the lessee.

In December 2022, IndiGo opened reservations for wet-leased Boeing 777 aircraft for the Delhi-Istanbul route. The plane was taken on wet lease from Turkish Airlines. The Boeing 777 is a wide-body aircraft that can accommodate up to 400 passengers. It is a popular choice for long-haul flights.

In March 2023, IndiGo received approval from the civil aviation ministry to wet lease two more aircraft for operating flights to the United States and Canada. The airline has not yet announced which aircraft it will lease or when the flights will start.
