L&T bags contract to implement advanced welding technologies for world's largest nuclear fusion project in France
Mumbai: Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Friday that it has secured a contract to implement advanced welding technologies for the ITER Organisation's nuclear fusion project, the largest in the world, located in Cadarache, Southern France.

ITER is an international nuclear fusion research and engineering megaproject aimed at creating energy through a fusion process similar to that of the Sun.
While the precise value of the contract was not disclosed, the order was marked as ‘significant’—a term L&T uses to indicate orders worth between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore.
Under this contract, L&T will deploy critical advanced technologies to assemble ports and complex parts with the vacuum vessel at the project site.
"L&T has won a new order from the France-headquartered intergovernmental body the ITER Organisation for the deployment of critical advanced technologies for assembly of ports and complex parts with the vacuum vessel at the world's largest nuclear fusion project at Cadarache in Southern France," L&T stated in an exchange filing.
What is the ITER Organisation?
ITER, previously known as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, is a large-scale international scientific collaboration focused on making fusion a practical energy source.
The initiative involves over 35 countries working together to construct the world’s largest Tokamak—a magnetic fusion device.
According to ITER’s website, fusion energy is a carbon-free energy source that operates on the same principle powering the Sun and stars.
