India logs 3,016 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours

New Delhi/UNI: India has registered 3,016 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total active case in the country at 13,509, as per the Health Ministry on Thursday.

India's Covid-related death roll has increased to 5,30,862 with 14 more fatalities, three reported by Maharashtra, two from Delhi and one reported by Himachal Pradesh and eight reconciled by Kerala.

Meanwhile, 1396 people have recovered during the same period, said the health Ministry.

The recovery rate is currently at 98.78% and the total recovered cases stood at 4,41,68,321.

The Ministry said, 15,784 vaccine doses of COVID have been administered during the last 24 hours under the nationwide vaccination drive.

"220.65 cr Total Vaccine doses (95.20 cr Second Dose and 22.86 cr Precaution Dose) have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive," said the Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government will hold a meeting on Thursday to review the Covid-19 situation in the national capital amid a spurt in cases.

The national capital had on Wednesday recorded 300 new infections and two deaths.

This is the first time since last September the city has clocked these many cases.

The positivity rate stood at 13.89 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.

Experts attributed the new XBB.1.16 variant of the virus to the surge.
