Parampara Ayurveda founder Dr. Debabrata Sen shares wellness strategies for desk-bound professionals

Dr Debabrata Sen, a third-generation Ayurvedic physician and founder of Parampara Ayurveda, offers a comprehensive guide to help working professionals navigate the challenges of desk-bound jobs.

Drawing from ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, he provides actionable strategies to address common issues such as poor posture, eye strain, digestive discomfort and burnout.

He recommends incorporating simple chair yoga stretches and micro-movements throughout the workday to alleviate stiffness and improve posture. Regular breaks for stretching can prevent musculoskeletal issues associated with prolonged sitting.

Ensuring the workstation supports good posture, using a footrest if feet do not comfortably reach the floor, and adjusting the chair to maintain a neutral spine position are key ergonomic adjustments.

To address eye health and screen fatigue, Sen advises practising Trataka by focusing the gaze on a fixed point or candle flame to strengthen eye muscles and reduce strain while also enhancing concentration and mental clarity.

He also recommends following the 20-20-20 rule, looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to reduce eye fatigue from screen exposure.

For digestive wellness, he suggests sipping on warm herbal teas like ginger or cumin after meals to aid digestion and prevent bloating. These teas stimulate digestive enzymes and soothe the gastrointestinal tract.

Gentle yoga poses such as Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose) or Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose) 15 to 30 minutes after eating can enhance digestion and alleviate discomfort.

To manage stress and prevent burnout, Sen encourages the use of adaptogens like ashwagandha and Brahmi to combat stress and improve resilience. These herbs help balance cortisol levels and support mental well-being.

He also recommends Dirgha Pranayama (Three-Part Breath) to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress by calming the mind and body.

A passionate educator, Sen often speaks about the scientific depth of Ayurveda, especially its eight distinct branches, known collectively as Astanga Ayurveda. He is a strong advocate for gene-based plant selection and supports the use of genetic engineering to enhance the potency of Ayurvedic medicines while remaining true to their roots.

“People think Ayurveda is just about mixing herbs, but it’s a structured medical system with rigorous protocols and classifications,” he explains. “Without understanding its fundamentals, we risk turning it into a caricature of itself.”

Under his guidance, Parampara Ayurveda has developed more than 200 meticulously researched products, available through 12 company-owned outlets and leading e-commerce platforms.

All products are developed in state-of-the-art laboratories that uphold stringent quality and efficacy standards, ensuring patients receive authentic and effective treatments.

For Sen, Ayurveda is not just a profession—it is a calling. His long-term vision for Parampara Ayurveda is to make it a global benchmark for authentic Ayurvedic care, blending age-old formulations with scientific validation.

As he continues to innovate and educate, his resolve to preserve the purity of Ayurveda ensures that it remains not just relevant but vital in the future of global healthcare.
