Google’s next big bet: AI Glasses set to arrive in 2026
Google has confirmed plans to launch its next generation of AI-powered smart glasses in 2026, stepping up competition in the fast-growing wearable technology market dominated by players such as Meta.
In a blog post shared during its annual I/O conference, the tech giant revealed it is collaborating with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to develop stylish, lightweight eyewear designed for comfortable all-day use.
Google noted that the upcoming product line will include two different types of smart glasses.
One model will focus on screen-free AI assistance, featuring built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras. These glasses will allow users to interact naturally with Google’s AI assistant Gemini, take photos, receive real-time help, and access contextual information without needing a display.
The second version will offer a built-in in-lens display, enabling users to privately view useful data such as turn-by-turn navigation, live translation captions, and other smart overlays without distracting from the real world.
Google also highlighted the role of its new Android XR platform, which will support next-generation extended reality devices. As part of this initiative, the company previewed Project Aura, a new Android XR device being developed with XREAL. The wearable will feature a 70-degree field of view and optical see-through technology, allowing digital content to blend seamlessly with the physical environment.
Earlier in May, Warby Parker had announced its strategic partnership with Google to co-develop AI-enabled eyewear for everyday use.
Commenting on the collaboration, Warby Parker Co-Founder and Co-CEO Neil Blumenthal said, “We're excited to work with Google to develop intelligent eyewear that will enhance our everyday lives. The eyewear we wear and the technology we use are core parts of our identity and our daily experience. Our teams share a commitment to leverage design, utility, and innovation to build products to help customers in every aspect of life."
