India stuns the tech world! Microsoft announces record-breaking US$17.5B plan — AI revolution incoming!
Washington DC/New Delhi/IBNS: Tech giant Microsoft on Tuesday announced a massive US$17.5 billion investment in India over four years starting in 2026—its largest investment in Asia to date.
The investment aims to significantly strengthen India’s cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, expand AI skilling initiatives, and support ongoing operations across the country.
This fresh commitment follows the US$3 billion investment announced earlier this year, which Microsoft says it is on track to fully deploy by the end of CY2026.
The announcement comes shortly after Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his India visit. Their discussion focused on India’s AI roadmap, innovation opportunities and long-term growth vision.
Microsoft said the investment is centred on three pillars — scale, skills and sovereignty — aligning closely with PM Modi’s vision of creating a national ecosystem that drives AI innovation and accessibility at scale.
Sharing his remarks on X, Nadella thanked PM Modi for an “inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity,” adding: “Microsoft is committing US$17.5B—our largest investment ever in Asia—to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future.”

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Microsoft’s commitment underscores India’s rise as a trusted global technology partner, adding that the move will accelerate the country’s shift from digital public infrastructure to AI public infrastructure.
Labour & Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted India’s significant gains in social protection—from 19% coverage in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, benefiting over 94 crore citizens.
He said embedding AI into platforms like eShram and the National Career Service (NCS) will further strengthen the country’s social security framework, welcoming Microsoft’s support in building an AI-first future.
