Clear Screen mode for distraction-free viewing
One of the key updates is a new Clear Screen mode, which allows users to watch Shorts without on-screen overlays such as icons and text cluttering the playback view.
According to YouTube, the feature offers an “immersive, distraction-free view” by temporarily hiding interface elements during playback.
Faster playback and easier controls
YouTube Shorts will also soon support double playback speed, enabling users to consume content more quickly or jump to key moments with ease.
In addition, users will be able to mute videos more seamlessly by tapping the screen to pause and then selecting the mute option when needed. A timer adjustment option will also allow users to set the Shorts timer to zero.
Changes in user interaction features
The platform is also updating how users engage with content. YouTube will introduce a new “like” icon, replacing the traditional thumbs-up symbol to provide a more expressive way of showing appreciation.
At the same time, the dislike button will be removed. Instead, YouTube will rely on feedback tools such as “Not Interested” and “Don’t recommend this channel” to better refine recommendations and personalise user feeds.
