5-yr-old girl raped, strangled to death in Kerala's Kochi
Kochi: A five-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered by a migrant worker after she was abducted from her house in Kerala’s Kochi on Friday, media reports said citing police sources.
She disappeared from her home at the Garage junction.
The autopsy report revealed the child was raped and strangulated to death, police said.
The victim was the daughter of a migrant couple hailing from Bihar.
According to the report, her body was dumped in a sack in a marshy area behind a market in nearby Aluva on Saturday.
Police filed an FIR and swung into action after receiving a complaint at 7:10 pm on Friday.
The CCTV footage revealed that the child was with the migrant labourer and apprehended at 9.30 pm.
The accused was in an intoxicated state and police had some difficulty in extracting information from him and the child was not with him.
On Saturday morning, he confessed to his crime but also tried to mislead the police.
Earlier on Friday, residents informed the police that they had spotted the child with the accused near the market zone.
The police quickly arrived at the scene, conducted a thorough search with the help of the locals, and subsequently found the girl's lifeless body.
The locals further informed that the land behind the market is an abandoned and secluded spot and serves as a dumping ground.
The area had become a safe haven for antisocial elements, and incidents of alcohol and drug consumption were often reported, according to their accounts.
