AAP Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Gogi dies of gunshot wound
Ludhiana/IBNS: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab's Ludhiana West Gurpreet Gogi died of a gunshot wound late on Friday, media reports said.
The incident occurred at his residence in the Ghumar Mandi area of the city.
The 58-year-old was rushed to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) but he was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the politician likely suffered the wound due to an accidental firing while he was cleaning his weapon.
Kuldeep Singh Chahal, Ludhiana Police Commissioner, told The Indian Express, "The MLA received a gunshot injury in his head. The autopsy report will confirm other details. It is being verified if it was a suicide or accidental fire."
"Prima facie, it was an accidental fire when the MLA was cleaning his weapon. He received a gunshot injury in the head from his 25-bore pistol. Autopsy report will ascertain other details," Shubham Aggarwal, Deputy Commission of police (Investigation), Ludhiana, said as quoted by the daily.
Gogi, a former Congress leader, joined the AAP in 2022.
The veteran politician served the Congress for 22 years until he jumped the ship.
He was a four-time Congress councillor in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and former district president of Ludhiana Congress (Urban).
