Ahmedabad plane crash: One more body recovered from debris
Ahmedabad/IBNS: One more body has been recovered from the debris caused by the crashing of the London-bound Air India flight into the residential quarters of a medical college in Ahmedabad, media reports said.
The body has been recovered from the ill-fated AI-171 aircraft's tail section.
The efforts to remove the wreckage are still underway at the site where the plane had crashed.
Meanwhile, the toll in the plane crash has increased to 274 including on-ground people, who were killed in one of the worst aviation tragedies of the country.
The tragedy that had left all but one onboard dead after the plane crashed within seconds after take-off into the BJ Medical College Hostel at Meghaninagar area of the largest city of Gujarat on Thursday afternoon.
While 241 onboard passengers and crew members died in the crash, another 33 on ground were killed in the tragedy that has sent shockwaves across the country and brought the Boeing 787-7 Dreamliner under scrutiny.
Out of 242, 230 were passengers and 12 were crew members.
One person, the passenger of seat No. 11A, survived the crash miraculously.
Ramesh, a British-Indian who was returning to the UK after a visit to India, is the lone survivor in the mishap.
The aircraft's black box has been recovered.
The central government has formed a high-level multi-disciplinary committee to examine the causes that led to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport in London.
The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation wrote on X: "The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future."
"The Committee will not be a substitute to other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future," it said.
The Tata Group, which owns Air India, has announced that a compensation of Rs. 1 crore (133,514 US dollars) will be given to the families of each passenger who died in the crash.
On Friday, the Prime Minister travelled to Ahmedabad and visited the crash site.
Accompanied by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other officials, Modi inspected the crash site.
