"The @isro team belongs to India. Their hard work is a testament of the country's progress which has come from the people, scientists and economists, and not any political entity," Banerjee said on X.

"Scientists from across the country, including Bengal, have greatly contributed to the mission. I applaud the efforts of all those who have worked hard at taking India's lunar exploration to greater heights!" she added.

She called upon the nation to witness the historical moment on Wednesday.

India waiting for Moon landing

The nation will pray together on Wednesday as the country's third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is expected to land on the surface of the Moon later in the evening.

The special moment of landing will be telecast live.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Tuesday said the Chandrayaan-3 mission is on schedule and sailing smoothly for a soft landing on the South Polar Region of the Moon on Wednesday evening.

The systems are undergoing regular checks and the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) was buzzing with energy and excitement.
