Guwahati/IBNS: The flood situation in Assam has further worsened with over five lakh people being affected so far in the northeastern state of India, media reports said.

More than 5.35 lakh people have been affected in over 20 districts across the state since last Friday.

The situation has worsened with the districts suffering from overflowing rivers that caused the villages to get submerged with water.

The relief centres are overwhelmed and the scenario looks grim as more rain is predicted in several parts.

An orange alert has been issued in four districts- Dhubri, South Salmara Mankachar, Goalpara and Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

The death toll stands at 11 with two more people missing.

Over 31,000 displaced people are staying in 165 relief centres across the state while another 157 relief distribution centres are active.

Several rivers including Brahmaputra were overflowing with embankments and have been breached at multiple places.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the relief camps set up by the state government on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said, "Visited the flood affected district of Cachar & spoke with the people who are sheltered in Relief Camps set up by our Govt. Reassured the people of all support from our side and have issued instructions to the administration to eliminate long processes and provide quick relief."
