'BJP doesn't operate in Maharashtra on the basis of crutches': Amit Shah eyes 'triple engine' govt
Mumbai/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday boasted of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s success story in Maharashtra participating in the bhoomipujan programme of the party's new regional headquarters set to be built in Churchgate station, media reports said.
Addressing his party workers, Shah said, "Now, in Maharashtra, the BJP does not operate on the basis of any crutches, but stands on its own strength. The way the BJP's existence and principles hold an indelible place in India's politics. In the same way, now the BJP is a strong signature in the political arena of Maharashtra."
Shah's remark has far-fetching meaning as the BJP almost secured a single majority in the last assembly elections which were held in 2024.
The BJP strongman also stressed on how nepotism doesn't work in the party citing the example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah said, "Our party runs not on the basis of nepotism, but on the basis of democratic values. Whoever works hard, advances on the principles of the party, whoever has the strength to perform within, only that person can become a big leader in this party."
"We have proven that the politics of family-run parties will no longer work in this country. It is the politics of performance that will lead the nation forward. PM is the best example of this. A child born in a humble tea seller’s home rose, through his dedication, sacrifice, and hard work, to become the Prime Minister of India.
"I believe that a party which cannot uphold democracy within its own functioning can never protect the democracy of the nation. This is a strong message to all dynastic parties," the Prime Minister added.
But Shah reminded his party workers that the task is not over as the BJP strongman set a new target for the outfit on Monday.
The BJP strategist set all local body poll victories as the new target for the party workers.
"A double engine government has now been formed in Maharashtra. You may be happy with a double engine government, but I am not. I want a triple engine government. I call on BJP workers to campaign with such strength and vigour that our opponents are completely swept aside.
"We must contest this election with fierce momentum and win. The entire country is ready to welcome the BJP," he added.
The ruling coalition in Maharashtra, the Mahayuti (led by BJP with allies) secured a strong majority in 2024.
BJP alone won 132 seats, up significantly from the last election. BJP's allies, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), have won 57 and 41 seats respectively.
