British, Indian armies conclude eighth edition of Exercise Ajeya Warrior
Jaipur/IBNS: The British and Indian armies on Saturday concluded the eighth edition of their biennial joint military exercise Ajeya Warrior, held from November 17 to 30 at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
The UK’s A (Amboor) Company of the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles and the Indian Army’s 21st Sikh Regiment participated in the high-intensity drills, which focused on peace-enforcement operations in a counter-terrorism environment, in line with Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The two sides conducted simulated operations across multi-domain urban and semi-urban terrains, sharing tactics and standard operating procedures on areas including Counter-IED, small Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (sUAS), company-level battle drills, urban warfare, and support weapon deployment.
The training culminated in a battle group–level final exercise, where both armies operated under an integrated command, enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding.
Beyond combat training, the contingents also participated in fitness events, team sports, and cultural interactions, strengthening camaraderie and military-to-military ties.
Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India said: "Defence and security forms a crucial pillar of UK-India Vision 2035. Exercise Ajeya Warrior is a demonstration of UK’s deepening defence ties with India as we deliver this shared vision over the next decade. Beyond military cooperation, it underscores our shared commitment to peace, stability and a rules-based international order."
Commodore Chris Saunders MBE Royal Navy, Defence Adviser, British High Commission said: "Exercise Ajeya Warrior has seen soldiers of the British and Indian Army operating alongside each other in a demanding urban and semi-urban counter terrorism focussed exercise."
The next edition, Ajeya Warrior IX, will be held in the United Kingdom in 2027.
