Byelections to five assembly constituencies in four Indian states underway
New Delhi/IBNS: The byelections to five assembly constituencies across four states of the country are underway on Thursday, media reports said.
The assembly constituencies are Nilambur (Kerala), Ludhiana West (Punjab), Kaliganj (West Bengal), Visavadar and Kadi (Gujarat).
The voting began at 7 am. The results will be declared on June 23.
In Nilambur, the LDF has fielded M Swaraj, UDF has fielded Aryadan Shoukath, BJP has nominated Adv. Mohan Goerge.
In Ludhiana West, BJP has fielded Jiwan Gupta, AAP has nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, SAD has named Parupkar Singh Ghumman and Congress has fielded Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
In Kaliganj, TMC has fielded Alifa Ahmed, BJP has nominated Ashish Ghosh and Congress has fielded Kabil Uddin Shaikh.
In Gujarat's Visavadar, BJP has fielded Kirit Patel, Congress has nominated Nitin Ranpariya and AAP has fielded its former state president Gopal Italia.
In Kadi, BJP has fielded Rajendra Chavda, Congress has nominated Ramesh Chavda and AAP has chosen Jagdish Chavda.
The byelections in Kerala and West Bengal will be closely watched as the two states will head to polls in 2026.
